Disciple Makers Church | Downtown Durant Prayer Walk

Welcome to the the County seat of Bryan County, Durant Oklohoma.

Durant is the county seat of Bryan County — the heart of commerce, culture, and community life in this region.

Today we walk and pray through its streets, believing that God desires to awaken hearts, heal families, and bring revival here and beyond.

As we walk through Downtown Durant, we’ll use Matthew 5:3–6 as our prayer guide — asking that the Beatitudes would come alive in our city.

Why Prayer Walk?

Oswald Chambers once said:

“Prayer does not equip us for the great work—prayer is the great work.”

In Luke 10:2, Jesus said,

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

When we prayer walk, we are doing that work — inviting the Lord of the harvest to move in power.

Our steps are prayers. Our prayers are preparation for people who will one day follow Jesus.

What Is a Prayer Walk?

Prayer walking is simply talking with God as you walk, asking Him to make His presence known right where you are.

You can prayer walk anywhere — a city, school, neighborhood, or street. Today, we’ll prayer walk through Downtown Durant, praying at key landmarks for God’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done in Bryan County as it is in Heaven.

How To Prayer Walk

Eyes Wide Open

Keep your eyes open — both physically and spiritually. Pray for what you see: people, buildings, symbols, businesses, or even needs you sense in your spirit.

Go With a Partner

Walk in pairs or groups of 2–3. One can pray aloud while another listens, agrees, or observes. This keeps your focus and encourages unity.

Pray Naturally

No special words are needed — just talk to God like a friend. Use Scripture as your prayer guide. When unsure what to say, simply read the verse again and make it personal.

Encouragements

  • Be kind and approachable; you represent Jesus.

  • Feel free to greet or pray for anyone you meet.

  • End your walk with thanksgiving — God has heard every word.

  • Afterward, share your experiences with your group or team leader.

Prepare Your Heart

Before you begin:

  • Confess any sin and ask God to cleanse your heart.

  • Read Matthew 5:1–12.

  • Ask God to open your eyes and ears to what He wants to show you.

  • Praise Him for what He’s already doing in Durant through the other local churches.

What To Pray For (The “5 H’s”)

These simple focuses can guide your time:

  1. Open Heavens – Pray for God’s blessing and favor over this community.

  2. Open Hearts – Pray for people to receive the gospel with joy.

  3. Open Homes – Pray for families and households to follow Jesus.

  4. Open Highways – Pray for the gospel to spread throughout Bryan County.

  5. Open Hands – Pray for believers to serve their neighbors with love.

God's Design

We see beauty, purpose, and evidence of God's design around us. The Bible tells us that God originally planned a world that worked perfectly- where everything and everyone fit together in harmony. God made each of us with a purpose- to worship Him and walk with Him.

Genesis 1:31; Psalm 19:1

Sin

Life doesn't work when we ignore God and His original design for our lives. We selfishly insist on doing things our own way. The Bible calls this sin. We all sin and distort the original design. The consequences of our sin is separation from God- in this life and for all of eternity.

Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23a

Brokenness

Sin leads to a place of brokenness. We see this all around us and in our own lives as well. When we realize life is not working, we begin to look for a way out. We tend to go in many directions trying different things to figure it out on our own. Brokenness leads to a place of realizing a need for something greater.

Romans 1:25

Repent and Believe

At this point, we need a remedy- some good news. Because of His love, God did not leave us in our brokenness. Simply hearing this Good News is not enough. We must admit our sinful brokenness and stop trusting ourselves. We don't have the power to escape the brokenness on our own. We need to be rescued. We must ask God to forgive us- turning from sin to trust only in Jesus. This is what it means to repent and believe. Believing, we receive new life through Jesus and God turns our lives in a new direction.

Mark 1:15b; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9a

Gospel

At this point, we need a remedy- some good news. Because of His love, God did not leave us in our brokenness. Jesus, God in human flesh, came to us and lived perfectly according to God's design. Jesus came to rescue us- to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. He took our sin and shame to the cross, paying the penalty of our sin by His death. Jesus was then raised from the dead- to provide the only way for us to be rescued and restored to a relationship with God.

John 3:16; Colossians 2:14

Recover and Pursue

When God restores our relationship to Him, we begin to discover meaning and purpose in a broken world. now we can pursue God's design in all areas of our lives. Even when we fall, we understand God's pathway to be restored- this same Good News of Jesus. God's Spirit empowers us to pursue His design and assures us of His presence in this life and for all eternity.

Philippians 2:13; Ephesians 2:10

What should I do now?

When God restores our relationship to Him, we begin to discover meaning and purpose in a broken world. now we can pursue God's design in all areas of our lives. Even when we fall, we understand God's pathway to be restored- this same Good News of Jesus. God's Spirit empowers us to pursue His design and assures us of His presence in this life and for all eternity.

Philippians 2:13; Ephesians 2:10
